“This changes the face of a REAL controller”.
Do you remember that time when all of your friends would gather at a single residence and the one person that shows up last had to play through the entire session with the piece of shit MadCatz controller? Well, for the past few years, MadCatz has started to buck their shady history and with the MLG Pro Circuit Controller they have officially put the final punctuation on their re-write of peripheral history.
Function:
With the launch of the MLG Pro Circuit Controller, MadCatz set out to make a real controllers for real gamers. The beautiful thing about the new controller is that it is interchangeable depending on the gamers desires. The front of the controller comes apart in three pieces, with a main face-plate and two arm plates. These can be subbed between matte and gloss, colors or patterns to suit your mood. You can also change out the joysticks in both position and type. The starting package comes with two PS3 concave joysticks, and two Xbox 360 Convex joysticks, both of which can be placed on the controller in either PS3 or 360 configuration.
Equipped on the MLG controller is a 3m braided cable with a screw on attachment on the controller end, and a break-away dongle on the console end for ultimate durability. On the back side where the normal controller has a the battery pack, the MLG Pro controller has a weight cartridge that can hold up to 70g’s of weight.

Impression:
MadCatz play tested the crap out of this design with actual MLG pro gamers and it shows. This single controller has the ability to suit any player and fits the bill of “perfect controller” with the simplest of ease. I spoke before about MadCatz finally putting to bed their lackluster beginning, well this is their holy grail. I’ve never felt such a great controller in my hands and I hope that they don’t slow down from this point out. I can’t believe no one has come up with an interchangeable controller in the past.
I have a graveyard of broken controllers, but this one is going in the trophy case.
What worked:
- It’s Sexy
- Love the custom Face-plates (boner for gamers)
- Choice of joystick position/type
- Girth (customized weight)
- Durability
What failed:
- Hard to get a hold of professionally custom plates
- Price is slightly high (but justifiable)
- Could have been dual platform
Verdict:
