The Xbox 360 looks to be getting one step closer to being a “one-size-fits-all” media box, with news that Internet Explorer 9 is being brought to the console, though the even more interesting story looks to be the experience will be largely driven by Kinect gestures and voice controls, a la Minority Report. While developers have stated that you will be able to use Internet Explorer without a Kinect, the browser was designed around Kinect Gesture and Voice usage. So if you, like me, have ever wanted the ability to verbally ask your 360 to bring up pornography, it looks as if you may soon get the chance.
Little is being said about the full functionality of the 360′s Internet Explorer, or the specifics of how you’d use Kinect to control it, or even really when it’s slated to be released, though I feel like these questions will be answered at Microsoft’s E3 press conference this following month, with its release to come in a hardware update this fall. Until then however it looks like I’m stuck here surfing the net on my old laptop, point-and-clicking with my mouse like a damn fool.
